Applying for Secondary School – September 2026

Children born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015 will transfer to secondary school in September 2026. Applications should be submitted no later than 11:59pm on 31 October 2025. If you miss this deadline please contact the Schools Admissions Team immediately for further advice. Secondary school place offers for all on time applicants will be posted on 1 March 2026.

Brilliant schools give young people the great start in life they deserve. Secondary schools are still finalising their plans around open days. The brochure “Starting secondary school in Southwark 2026/27” does not include any dates, so you will have to check for updates on school websites.

To make your preference list of up to 6 schools, please take some time to look at school brochures and websites, and the schools’ most recent Ofsted report: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/ofsted. Many schools have videos on their websites that give you insight about school life, but it is always best to visit in person.

Making an application

Southwark Council processes all school applications for Southwark borough residents. If your child meets the admissions criteria, you can apply for schools outside Southwark, such as St Gabriel’s College in Lambeth.  The only schools you can apply to directly are independent (private), such as Dulwich College, JAGS or Alleyn’s.   If you live outside the London Borough of Southwark, you must apply to your local council, even if you want to apply for a Southwark school. You can however include Southwark schools on your home local authority application. Southwark residents should apply online at http://www.eadmissions.org.uk/ from 1 September 2024.

Online applications will only be processed when proof of address and parental responsibility have been received by the Admissions Team. If you are unable to make an online application, paper forms are available on request from the Southwark Council Admissions Team.

If your child has an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), please do not complete an application form but contact the Special Educational Needs team on 020 7525 4278 for further information. You can view Southwark’s local offer information here.
